The curation of this playlist was inspired by the joyful over-tones of Beyonce’s comeback single “BREAK MY SOUL”. When listening to the single for the first time, I was caught off guard in the best way. It was as if my soul was leaping out of my chest. I was reminded of what it feels like during the height of an spirited church service. I was deeply moved and reminded of all of the other songs that make me feel the same way.
I specifically wanted to curate a list of joyful black music to highlight how its multifaceted and appears in different shades and tones. From the easy-going feel of “Sweet-Life” to the reggae inspired melodies of “Work,”; the familiar vibrations of “Never Too Much” and “Before I Let Go” and the assertive & proud nature of “Alright”: Black Joy is sexy, fun, embodies resilience, and is beautiful through and through.
What songs by black artists bring you joy? What would you have added to the list? Leave a comment & let's talk about it!
